Benaulim, Goa: AAP Benaulim MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas has launched a scheme under which every Goa Football Association (GFA)-registered club in his constituency will receive ₹1 lakh annually from his MLA fund to support football development.
As part of the initiative, Capt. Viegas handed over the first cheque of ₹1 lakh to United Sports Club of Seraulim, a club registered with the GFA. The scheme had initially been announced during a football tournament.
With this initiative, Viegas aims to provide financial assistance to registered football clubs in Benaulim and support grassroots football in the constituency.
The cheque handover ceremony was attended by the club’s president, secretary, treasurer and committee members. Also present were AAP Zilla Panchayat member and former GFA committee member Antonio Leaio Fernandes, Seraulim Sarpanch Seema Santosh Shankhe, and other panchayat members.
Viegas has positioned the initiative as support for local football clubs and criticised the BJP for allegedly failing to provide adequate assistance to GFA-recognised clubs.
The scheme is intended to help registered clubs meet their financial requirements and strengthen football activities at the grassroots level in Benaulim.
The initiative places the focus on the role of local representatives in supporting sports infrastructure and providing financial assistance to community football clubs.
