CANACONA: A 56-year-old woman was found dead after her body was recovered from the sea at Galgibag Beach in Canacona on Sunday morning.
According to Canacona Police, the Police Control Room received information at around 10:29 am about a body floating in the sea. Police personnel, along with local residents and lifeguards, recovered the body from the water.
The deceased was identified as Surekha Pagi (56), a resident of Galgibag, by her son-in-law, Manjit Pagi.
Police said preliminary inquiry revealed that the woman had left her house at around 6 am without informing her family. Family members told police that she had been emotionally distressed over the past few days due to personal family circumstances. The exact circumstances surrounding her death are under investigation.
The body was shifted to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, for a post-mortem examination. According to the police surgeon, the cause of death was asphyxia due to drowning.
Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites. Canacona Police have registered an unnatural death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Ramdas Doifode.
