The Curchorem police have arrested Tanvi Vast, a local resident, on charges of cheating a woman from Vhodlemol, Kakoda, out of ₹30.5 lakh. This amount encompasses ₹5.5 lakh in cash and gold ornaments valued at ₹25 lakh. The victim, Rosalina Correia, reported that she was robbed of various gold items, including a necklace, two chains, five bangles, two bracelets, two rings, and a pair of earrings.
Vast, who was employed as a representative at the Curchorem branch of a nationalized bank, allegedly built a relationship of trust with Rosalina. She convinced her to exchange her valuable gold jewelry for what were purported to be similar metal items. Further complicating the situation, Vast is also accused of transferring ₹5.5 lakh from Rosalina’s bank account to her own using mobile banking.
Investigations revealed that other senior citizens might have also been victims of similar scams under Vast’s scheme. The police have noted that there has been a lag in reporting these frauds, as many victims have been reluctant to come forward and file formal complaints. The authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover more details and possibly identify additional victims impacted by the accused’s actions.
