Panaji, May 6: St. Andre MLA Viresh Borkar has submitted a formal petition to the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP), urging immediate action to demolish illegal shanties that have come up in the Curca area.Borkar cited growing concerns among locals regarding unregulated structures, which he claims are not only unauthorized but also pose environmental and safety hazards. “The illegal encroachments are affecting the natural landscape and creating civic issues in the village,” he stated in his petition.The MLA demanded that the Panchayat authorities conduct a thorough investigation and take strict measures in accordance with the law to restore order and protect public land.Residents of Curca have reportedly voiced similar concerns, alleging that the informal settlements have increased rapidly in recent months. Borkar emphasized that his appeal is in line with the community's demand for immediate intervention.The Directorate of Panchayats is yet to respond to the petition.
