Panaji: Marking World Environment Day, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant called upon citizens to strengthen their commitment towards environmental protection and sustainable development, emphasizing that collective action is essential to safeguarding natural resources for future generations.In a message shared on his X account on Friday, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of preserving the environment amid growing global concerns over climate change, pollution, and the depletion of natural resources. He urged people from all walks of life to adopt environmentally responsible practices and contribute towards building a cleaner and greener future.“On this World Environment Day, let us reaffirm our collective responsibility to protect and preserve our environment for future generations,” Sawant said. He stressed that environmental conservation is not solely the responsibility of governments and institutions but requires active participation from every citizen.The Chief Minister noted that simple yet meaningful actions such as reducing waste, conserving water, planting trees, minimizing the use of plastic, and embracing sustainable lifestyles can have a significant positive impact on the environment. He said that individual efforts, when combined, can bring about substantial change and help create healthier ecosystems.“Every small step towards sustainability, conservation, and responsible living contributes to a greener and healthier planet,” he added.Sawant also reiterated the state government's commitment to promoting environmental awareness and implementing initiatives aimed at preserving Goa’s rich biodiversity, forests, rivers, coastline, and natural heritage. He emphasized the need to strike a balance between development and environmental protection to ensure long-term sustainability.World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5 to encourage awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
