PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has criticised the Congress over alleged derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s family, accusing the party of crossing the limits of political discourse.
Sawant questioned whether Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge would defend what he described as a decline in political standards. He alleged that after remarks targeting Modi’s mother, Congress leaders had now made disrespectful comments about his father.
The Chief Minister said personal attacks on a leader’s family would not help political parties earn public trust. He asserted that such remarks would not weaken the respect and confidence millions of Indians have in Modi.
Sawant also linked the Congress’s approach to its electoral setbacks, urging political parties to focus on constructive opposition rather than personal criticism. He said people understood the difference between meaningful political debate and personal attacks.
