Goa Assembly Session from July 21 to August 8; Opp Slams BJP for Curtailing Duration.

PANAJI: Governor of Goa, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, has summoned the Eighth Legislative Assembly to convene its Tenth Session from Monday, July 21, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. The official order was issued on June 20. As per the calendar released by the Goa Legislative Assembly, the session will have fifteen sittings, concluding on August 8, 2025.The decision has triggered criticism from the Opposition. Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao alleged that the ruling BJP government has been systematically reducing the number of assembly sittings, calling it an attempt to avoid accountability.“The summoning of the Tenth Session for just 15 days is yet another escape route from getting exposed. Last year, the session had 18 days. Now, three days have been cut. This is clearly an effort to shrink democratic space,” Alemao said.He further accused the government of undermining democracy, stating that the curtailment of sessions reflects failures across critical sectors, including finance and employment.“We will expose this corrupt government and its failure in governance,” Alemao asserted. The upcoming session is expected to see intense debates, especially on issues related to the state’s financial health, unemployment, and public welfare schemes.
