Goa, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte Receive Global Recognition at PATWA Awards in Berlin

Panaji: Goa's tourism sector received a major international boost as the state and Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte were honoured at the prestigious PATWA International Travel Awards 2026 held alongside ITB Berlin, one of the world's largest travel and tourism exhibitions.Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte was presented with the Tourism Minister of the Year – Innovation (Asia) award in recognition of his leadership and efforts in driving innovative and sustainable tourism initiatives across Goa. The award was conferred by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA), a globally respected body in the travel and tourism sector.Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Khaunte said the honour belonged to the people of Goa and reflected the collective efforts of stakeholders across the tourism ecosystem."Tourism in Goa is not merely about attracting visitors. It is about empowering communities, preserving culture, protecting the environment, and creating opportunities for local people. Our goal is to build a regenerative, inclusive, and sustainable tourism model that benefits every Goan," he said.Adding to the state's achievements, Goa was also awarded the Destination of the Year – Rejuvenation title for its successful transformation into a more diverse and sustainable tourism destination. The recognition acknowledges Goa's efforts to move beyond its traditional beach tourism image and promote experiences centred around culture, heritage, spirituality, wellness, nature, adventure, and community participation.
Over the past few years, Goa Tourism has introduced several initiatives under the vision of "Goa Beyond Beaches" and Regenerative Tourism, focusing on the pillars of People, Economy, and Environment. These include the promotion of hinterland tourism, spiritual tourism circuits, women-led homestays, cultural festivals, experiential tourism products, sustainable tourism practices, and enhanced international collaborations.
The PATWA International Travel Awards celebrate excellence in the global travel and tourism industry by recognising destinations, governments, organisations, and individuals that have made significant contributions to the sector.
The dual recognition at ITB Berlin 2026 further strengthens Goa's reputation as a progressive and globally competitive tourism destination, while highlighting the state's commitment to sustainable growth and innovative tourism development.
