PANAJI: Goa’s vehicle scrappage policy has received a positive response, with as many as 1,366 old and unfit vehicles scrapped at authorised centres across the state over the past two years.Officials said the initiative is aimed at encouraging vehicle owners to phase out outdated and polluting vehicles in an environmentally responsible manner. The scheme has steadily gained traction as more people opt for regulated scrapping instead of continuing to use unfit vehicles.Under the policy, owners who scrap their old vehicles are issued a certificate of deposit, which enables them to avail incentives on the purchase of new vehicles. These benefits include discounts from manufacturers as well as concessions on road tax, making the transition to newer, cleaner vehicles more attractive.
