Panaji, April 29:Noted historian Prajal Sakhardande has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating state of the heritage site in Old Goa, blaming the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for failing to protect the area from rampant encroachments.Speaking to the media, Sakhardande said that concrete structures continue to rise dangerously close to protected monuments, endangering the sanctity and historical value of Old Goa. He warned that the site is under threat from all sides — including government apathy, political interference, and unchecked activities by builders.“Despite receiving regular salaries, ASI officials are not doing their job. There is no active monitoring or enforcement to stop illegal construction around one of Goa’s most sacred heritage zones,” he said.He appealed to the people of Goa and heritage lovers across the country to speak out against this neglect and demand accountability from the authorities. Sakhardande urged immediate action to preserve Old Goa’s legacy for future generations.
