New Delhi, May 9, 2025 — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially suspended the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season following a sudden and sharp escalation in military tensions between India and Pakistan. The tensions were triggered by the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.The announcement came a day after the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned midway in Dharamsala due to emergency air raid alerts issued in the neighboring regions of Jammu and Pathankot. Players and officials were safely evacuated, but the incident raised serious concerns over the safety of continuing the tournament. The Pahalgam attack, which claimed multiple lives and injured dozens, has significantly strained diplomatic relations and intensified military activity along the border. With security agencies on high alert and the threat level elevated, the BCCI, in consultation with central and state authorities, opted to suspend the tournament indefinitely.A BCCI spokesperson stated, “The safety of players, officials, and fans is our top priority. Given the current situation, it is not feasible to continue hosting matches across the country.”Further updates on the resumption or cancellation of the tournament are expected once the security situation stabilizes.
