Minister Takes Responsibility for Building New House for Fire Victims”

Sanguem:During a recent incident at Wadi Viliyan in the Sanguem constituency, a hut caught fire, leaving a destitute mother and daughter without a roof over their heads. Taking serious note of the incident, local MLA and Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai personally visited the mother-daughter duo and took responsibility for building them a new house. The incident occurred around midnight on Wednesday when Mrs. Bhandari and her daughter Teja Bhandari had gone to sleep at the home of a neighbor, Krishna Bhandari. Suddenly, their hut caught fire, and the gas cylinder inside exploded, engulfing the entire structure in flames. Within moments, the mother and daughter were rendered homeless. Due to the landowner’s refusal to provide access to the site, the fire truck arriving from Curchorem got stuck halfway and couldn’t reach the location in time. Though villagers tried to help, they were unable to save the hut.All of the family’s belongings—including clothes, food supplies, cooking utensils, Aadhaar cards, bank passbooks, and other documents—were completely destroyed in the fire. Fortunately, they escaped unharmed thanks to the shelter provided by Krishna Bhandari. At the time of the incident, Minister Subhash Phal Dessai was in Delhi. Upon hearing the news, he rushed to Sanguem and visited Viliyan to inquire about the situation. Discussions were held about constructing a permanent house for the victims. As the land is privately owned, the minister mentioned he would speak with the landowner about the matter. He also assured that the house would be built either under the Shramdaan Scheme or at his personal expense. With the monsoon approaching, he emphasized the need to complete the construction before the rains begin.
