Tourist Trouble in Baga: Drunk Duo Booked Under BNS for Assaulting Cops"

Baga:Two men from Rajasthan were arrested late Sunday night for allegedly abusing, threatening, and assaulting police personnel during a drunken brawl at Baga, which disrupted traffic along the busy Calangute–Baga stretch.

The accused, identified as Baksa (25) and Gautam (22), were staying at a nearby resort when they reportedly created a commotion near Calangute market, prompting police intervention. When constables Sindesh Sawant and Sameer Mandrekar from Calangute Police Station tried to control the situation, the duo allegedly grabbed a PCR driver by the collar and verbally abused the officers.

According to the police, both men appeared heavily intoxicated and claimed to be linked to a “gang” while threatening officers on duty. Their actions caused a traffic jam and panic among tourists and locals. The duo was eventually detained and escorted to the police station after resisting arrest.

Police later clarified that the men had no real criminal background and were not connected to any gang, but were booked for obstructing a public servant and using criminal force under Sections 352, 351(2), and 132 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
