Panaji: AAP Goa President has written to Goa Chief Minister demanding a universal health insurance scheme that provides ₹10 lakh coverage to every Goan family without any conditions.
Naik has also sought an appointment with the Chief Minister to discuss the proposal and the need to strengthen Goa's healthcare system.
According to Naik, nearly 90% of Goans depend on government healthcare services. He alleged that many essential treatments and medical facilities are not available in government hospitals, forcing patients to seek expensive treatment in private hospitals.
He further claimed that the existing DDSSY health insurance scheme is inadequate to meet the rising cost of healthcare, particularly for patients requiring prolonged treatment for serious illnesses. Naik said the scheme currently covers only 447 medical procedures, leaving many patients to bear significant out-of-pocket expenses.
Drawing a comparison with , Naik stated that the AAP government there has included around 2,350 procedures under its health insurance programme, offering broader medical coverage to beneficiaries.
AAP leaders said that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right of every Goan and should not be treated as a privilege. They urged the Goa government to introduce comprehensive health insurance with ₹10 lakh coverage for every Goan family and improve access to affordable healthcare across the state.
