PANAJI: The Bombay High Court at Goa has granted relief to actor-turned-activist Gaurav Bakshi by quashing the criminal case registered against him over an alleged confrontation with an official of the Tiswadi Mamlatdar’s office.
Justice Amit Jamsandekar quashed the FIR registered by Panaji Police in December 2025, along with the chargesheet and proceedings before the JMFC at Merces.
The case arose from a dispute over a land-conversion file. The official had alleged that Bakshi used abusive language, threatened him and created a disturbance at the office.
However, the High Court held that the allegations did not meet the legal requirements for criminal intimidation under Section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Bench observed that stating an intention to approach vigilance authorities through lawful means cannot, by itself, be treated as a threat of injury.
The court also noted there were no allegations of assault, physical force or manhandling.
The ruling comes after the High Court had earlier quashed another case against Bakshi filed by Colvale Police, involving allegations of wrongfully restraining Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar.
