MARGAO: PWD Minister Digambar Kamat has appealed to people to support development projects in Goa, saying genuine concerns should be addressed through dialogue rather than opposing projects outright.
Kamat said development should not be delayed simply because of opposition to projects. He urged stakeholders to discuss any genuine problems and find solutions through consultation.
He also called for greater support for educational projects, saying Goa has the potential to emerge as an education hub and create new opportunities for its youth.
Kamat said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s vision is to build a “Vikasit and Swayampurna Goa” by 2037, in line with the national goal of “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
Highlighting Goa’s infrastructure growth, Kamat said the state has around 6,062 km of roads, with approximately ₹16,000 crore provided by the Centre for road development. He cited major projects such as the Western Bypass, Atal Setu and Porvorim Corridor.
The Minister said Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to inaugurate the Porvorim Corridor on September 10, 2026.
Kamat stressed that development should ultimately improve people’s quality of life through better healthcare, education, employment and infrastructure, while welfare schemes and the Swayampurna Goa initiative would support the state’s long-term growth.
