Goa Reservoir Levels Rise as Active Monsoon Boosts Water Storage

PANAJI: Continuous monsoon showers have significantly improved water storage levels in Goa’s reservoirs, bringing relief after steady rainfall across the state. According to the latest Water Resources Department data released on July 7, 2026, reservoir levels have shown consistent growth.

Gaunem Dam currently holds the highest storage at 68.7%, followed by Amthane Dam at 65.9% and Chapoli Dam at 53.8%.

The state’s largest reservoir, Salaulim Dam, has reached 42.5% of its capacity with 9,960 hectare-metres (Ha.m) of stored water. Tillari Dam stands at 43.3% capacity, storing 19,998.2 Ha.m, and remains the only reservoir releasing water, with a discharge of 50.85 cumecs.

The catchment areas have witnessed substantial rainfall, with Anjunem recording 1,159.5 mm, followed by Tillari (1,099.4 mm), Panchawadi (944.34 mm), Salaulim (911.5 mm) and Chapoli (808.2 mm).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa, has forecast that the active monsoon will continue over the coming days. Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds of 50–60 kmph is likely at a few places on July 7, while heavy showers with winds of 40–50 kmph are expected on July 8 and at isolated locations on July 9 and 10.

Looking ahead, the IMD has predicted moderate rainfall across many parts of Goa from July 11 to 13, which is expected to further improve reservoir storage and strengthen the state’s water reserves.
